when the wolves

are free

do you cage the sheep

do you fight

to defend

do you gnash your teeth

when the wolves

are free

do you gather a mob

when the children

are harmed

when those you love

why do we not love

more

why do we not love

all

what would we do

for those whose pain

we understand

would we fight

would we kill

would we destroy our futures

i will show up

i will participate in the collective

i will work to improve our communities

i will consider the needs of the many

compared to my needs not yours

i too am a patriot

i too am an american

i too am part of the global majority

we have a path forward

that involves less violence

less destruction

change implies destruction

we must be intentional and respectful

we must be careful the moment we hold

wrapped in our blanket is but a zygote

we have a path forward

it takes work

it takes heros

education of self and community

is no easy work it is

the work of a lifetime

we have a path forward

participation in process

patience to listen

patience to speak

i too am bound to the

freedom of others

i too am committed to the

social fabric

on which i rely

to bind these wounds inflicted by

the wolves

if i should become a wolf

bring me into the fold

of the social fabric

with some constraints

where the safety of the sheep

is concerned

the product of the sheep

the work we do as a community

spun into a web of connections

has the strength to

warmly embrace the wolves

to lift up the entire global community

it is a an ethereal home spun cloth

that can be applied to any framework

i worry the fight that will be brought

to the wolves

will be that of sticks and stones

when the fight coming at us

is the sale of fear itself

the fight that i bring

is my contribution to

an agreement of association

i will champion

through education and communication

through a feedback loop and public discourse

the value i see in the

Universal Declaration of Human Rights

i will participate in the loose knit

as yet unformalized

international association for the advancement of creative maladjustment

the fight that i bring

is my vote for an

equal rights amendment

to the united states constitution
