But have not worked with

My new thought partner

To ice the wounds

Of a burning planet

Have I failed

Am I not patriotic 

Enough to keep

My citizenship 

To a nation of a minority 

While yearning

For membership

To the global majority 

These tools

These thought partners

May enable my 

Privileged position

But they cannot

Earn an embrace

Of community

Only my critical reflection

Leaning in with curiosity 

Responding honestly

Can possibly help me

Find family

The greatest

Enemy to our

National interests

The problem

Here

Is me

Our future is haunted

And the ghost

Is my failure to act

And the ghost

To successfully 

Love

And the ghost

Is my failure

To learn from

My failure

My inability

To listen to the lived

Experiences of people

Because my world view

Is howling so loud

That what they say

Cannot be

My ignorance 

Shaping perception

Of what I experience 

Of people expressing their

Love

As being an ignorance 

Expressed by selfishness
