the other day

i played my small part

a love story

full of heart

so many years ago 

i saw it start

in a little church 

on a university campus

not far from where i now live

friends expressed their

commitment to each other

surrounded by family

and community 

a few years later 

a second daughter was

born

a bundle of curiosity 

who would as her sister said

shine a light on those around her

bringing into her orbit 

such talent, radiant voices

characters in yesterdays scene

that exuded joy and wonder

the curious bundle

seeking to know the world

wound up in Ireland a very

magical place that

with all its rainbows

gathers a community of gold

there on the island 

the main character 

and her soul mate

are introduced 

so clear was the match made 

that the continents of distance

and the villainy of borders 

were no match to stop their union

high in the hills

the ultimate gathering

place of community

through the windows

of the sanctuary could be seen

an outline of gold on the mountains

the sun contributing a gift

of natural wonder and beauty 

as the ordained introduced

husband and wife

it was during this time

i saw the strength of character 

that the curious had fallen in love with

he is kind that is clear

sweet and patient 

gentle hands placed a symbol

of love on a ring finger

and later the couple

sang songs for the witnesses

of their union

his voice like a thread of an angel

holding the stage with a confidence 

his bride next to him

her voice strong and just as confident 

telling her story to us 

all that she had learned 

with her curious life

telling us

all that they 

have to look forward to

God is in this place

brought to us by

this couple

the light in me

sees the light in them

asking us to 

remain in community 

asking us to

expand our community 

asking us

to consider

our choices
